NINA’S Jewellery has provided a local student the opportunity to see the potential of a career in jewellery design.
Jessica Depiazzi ap-plied for the Iluka Visions competition for young artists to get the chance to be an intern at Nina’s for a week.
Nina’s manager Debra Stenning said that the young artist’s submission stood out because of her passion.
“Her application was the only one that had art displayed all over it,” she said.
During the week Miss Depiazzi worked in both the Bunbury and Dunsborough stores to see how the design process for jewellery works.
“I learnt basic jewellery making skills like sawing, cuttlefish carving and casting and computer aided design,” Miss Depiazzi said.
However, the sixteen- year-old said that her favourite part about the week was watching the skilled jewellers.
Miss Stenning said the internship was a perfect way for young people to see how great the jewellery industry was.
“It is an eye in to how a young person’s creative capacity can flow through in to a rewarding career,” she said.
“When the jewellers and designers let a new person in to their world, it is always a positive experience.”
While Miss Depiazzi still has a year of high school to go she said that she is now considering a career in the jewellery industry.
