RESIDENTS of a new social housing facility have praised the government initiative and facilities that have been opened to provide an affordable living solution for Bunbury seniors.
The $22.7 million social housing development in Dalyellup was fully funded by the government under the Social Housing Initiative.
The state-of-the-art Bethanie Housing facility is already home to more than 50 seniors and began accepting new admissions last week.
Wally and Marlene Turansky is a local married couple who were one of the first to move into the complex.
The pair praised the luxurious facilities which were offered at a fraction of the current property price.
“We were looking for somewhere to move and the cost of housing and rental was amazing,” Mrs Turansky said.
“This is a dream come true.”
The newly completed project consists of 24 two-bedroom and 80 one-bedroom units with all incorporating six-star energy ratings into the design.
Senator Louise Pratt officially opened the facility last Wednesday and said that seniors were important to the government’s Social Housing Initiative.
“It is important to recognise that pensioners cannot afford rental prices – it is a significant burden,” she said.
“Seniors are a big part of the homeless agenda,” Senator Pratt said.
“Projects like this are designed to address this.”
