GIG: The sweltering heat of Bunbury’s Prince of Wales Hotel and a barely-healed broken finger did not stop indie rock band British India from putting on a killer show last Thursday night.
Melbourne indie rockers British India has become regulars to Bunbury, performing at the Prince several times over the last few years.
They hadn’t lost any of their enthusiasm for the venue last week when they rocked out to all their popular songs such as Tie Up My Hands and Avalanche.
Among all the popular songs the band slipped in a few new ones that will be on their upcoming fourth album.
The audience went crazy as they got up close and personal with the boys but did not notice that frontman Declan Melia was coming back from a broken finger earlier in the She Prefers Older Men tour.
During the show it was clear that the band were sweltering in the pub’s heat, so Melia thought it would be refreshing for him to play a song with a towel over his head.
Melia did not care that he looked silly with his sunnies over his white towel as he continued to smash out the guitar and vocals.
One lucky audience member managed to give Melia her licence to show him it was her birthday.
“It’s everyone’s birthday tonight, so lets party,” Melia screamed.
The climax of the energetic performance came when the boys played a cover song called Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger.
The audience went mental to this song as they chimed in to sing the popular chorus of “I’m not sick, but I’m not well.”
The Melbourne rock band finished off a stellar night with their crowd favourite song March In to The Ocean.
For someone who has seen British India perform more than a handful of times, they have not lost any of their stage appeal and continue to impress with a passion for rocking out which keeps fans coming back again and again.
