FESTIVAL: The Geographe Crush Food and Wine Festival will tempt your tastebuds this year with wine appreciation seminars run by awarded winemakers.
The seminars will be presented by Baudin Trophy Winners who were awarded at the annual Geographe Wine Show recently.
Peter Stanlake from Pith Winemaking will present at 12.30pm and look at the Grenache, Shiraz and Mouvedre.
First he will look at the wines in isolation and review brands from both within the region and outside of Geographe. He will then explore some of the blends using these varietals.
At 2.30pm, Willow Bridge Estate senior winemaker Simon Burnell will look at the noble grape of Spain – Tempranillo, and give his thoughts on it being a challenger for the red throne in Geographe, or just an interesting alternative.
Event organisers recommend people take the time out to explore and understand the tastes that are starting to put Geographe on the Australian wine map.
The wine appreciation seminars will feature as part of the main program alongside the cooking demonstrations headed up by consultant chef Don Hancey.
He will use local produce, including Collie Valley marron, Blackwood Valley beef and Linley Valley pork in preparing some magnificent regional dishes.
Chefs presenting will be Matt Leahy from Mantra Bunbury Hotel, Shane Spooner from Lighthouse Beach Resort and Brett Johnson from Vat 2.
The cooking demonstrations will be staged at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
The Geographe Crush Food and Wine Festival will kick off on Sunday, November 6 from 11am to 6pm at Bicentennial Square in Bunbury.
