GIG: Following a sold-out run of metropolitan dates last August, indie favourite Josh Pyke is set to embark on the roads less travelled.
The talented singer-songwriter has announced a slew of regional dates next year to support his latest effort Only Sparrows.
The third album from the Sydney-sider shot to number four on the national charts and aptly displayed how far the muso had come.
Pyke began his career with rock outfit An Empty Flame before branching out as a solo act.
The artist wrote and recorded a number of EP releases which quickly gained attention on national broadcaster Triple J.
Pyke’s relaxed tunes and honest songwriting struck a chord with audiences as his popularity skyrocketed on the back of singles such as Middle of the Hill and Private Education.
The solo artist soon took the next step and produced his first full-length effort titled Memories & Dust.
Receiving rave reviews from critics and fans alike, Pyke officially made his mark on the national music scene.
The album peaked in the national top five and was nominated for a J Award on the back of his guitar skills and impressive vocals.
Pyke quickly followed the success of his debut with his second album release Chimney’s Afire.
The album cemented Pyke’s position as a songwriting powerhouse with Make You Happy and The Lighthouse Song included in the 2008 Triple J Hottest 100.
Pyke continued to develop his sound with the indie collective The Basement Birds and even lent his vocals to hip-hop man of the moment 360 on the track Throw It Away.
Make sure you do not miss this national gem when he performs an intimate gig at the Prince of Wales on February 16 next year.
Tickets are $30 or $35 at the door and are available now.
