A SHORTAGE in affordable housing for the older community members of Bunbury has resulted in the federal government fully funding a new $22.7 million social housing development in Dalyellup.
The project was funded under the Social Housing Initiative as both Minister for social housing and homelessness Mark Arbib and Senator for Western Australia Louise Pratt welcomed the opening of the Bethanie housing facility.
Mr Arbib said that the facility provided an affordable and safe place for seniors to live in the local area.
The newly completed units will be unveiled today.
It has 104 units consisting of 24 two-bedroom and 80 one-bedroom apartments, with each incorporating a six star energy rating.
Practical design principles have been incorporated into each of the units to cater for both older tenants and those with disabilities.
Mr Arbib said that the new housing facility was an important step to continual support to the older generation of Australians.
“This new development offers older Australians in our local community the security of having a stable place to live.
“Most importantly, these wonderful new homes will give older Australians a place to call home,” Senator Arbib said.
Western Australia has received a boost of almost $600 million to social housing from the federal government’s Social Housing Initiative.
The newly built facility is located on Kambany Approach in Dalyellup.
