Bunbury Trotting club chases funding

08 Feb, 2012 08:40 AM
THE Bunbury Trotting Club cannot upgrade its kitchen after another failed attempt for funding.

The club has applied three times for Royalties for Regions funding for their project.

The club’s manager Julie Caldwell said the kitchen was on its “last legs” and needed urgent attention.

The club was able to put in $300,000 of their own money but Ms Caldwell said it was not enough for the whole project.

“It is a $1.2 million project and it would be more expensive if we did it in stages,” she said.

After hearing about the club’s troubles, South West MLC Mick Murray has called for the government to reinstate the Regional Racecourse Infrastructure Fund.

South West Develop-ment Commission chief executive Don Punch said Royalties for Regions was competitive and unfortunately projects do miss out.

“If this does occur, we encourage applicants to contact the commission for assistance with applying for grants through other funding programs,” he said.
