01 Feb, 2012 08:25 AM
BUNBURY residents have been struggling to stay cool for the start of the year with record high temperatures.

January 2012 has been recorded as the hottest on record for Bunbury.

While thousands flocked to the City’s Australia Day activities, punters also experienced the hottest January 26 on record with 39.8 degrees.

Australia Day was part of a five day heat-wave from January 24 to 28.

Bunbury had soaring temperatures on these days reaching 36.6, 40.4, 39.8, 36.6 and 35.8 degrees.

The scorching 40.4 degrees on January 25 was the second hottest day since 2010 when it reached 40.6 on January 17.

January did not reach its long term average rainfall of 10.9 mms only receiving 1.8mms on one day.

Bunbury residents would have been restless on the night of January 27 with the hottest night on record since 1998 reaching 25.2.

However, this month’s temperature will continue to be high with the long term average of 30 degrees and long term rainfall average of only 11.5mms.
