BUNBURY women could become a part of sporting history by joining the push to make Polercise recognised as an Olympic sport later this year.
The winner and runner-up of Bunbury’s Miss South West Australia Pole competition have been invited to perform at a competition and demonstration in London in July.
Hosted by the International Pole Sports Federation, the World Pole Sport Championship will be an important part of the decision to include the sport in future Olympic Games.
Local women will compete against some of the best from across the globe for the chance to win a gold, silver or bronze medal.
Local Polercise WA instructor Tracey Ecclestone introduced the sport to Bunbury three years ago and said she was thrilled that local competitors would be under an international spotlight.
She said it would be a huge win for polercise to see it promoted as a sport that continued to grow in popularity.
The local Miss South West Pole Competition will be held at the South West Italian Club on April 21.
The competition will feature a line-up of local women taking to the pole with gravity-defying routines, each featuring a unique international theme.
The Bunbury Mail, Benesse Coffee and South West Harley Davidson are sponsoring the event.
