Bunbury's top teacher

16 Nov, 2011 09:23 AM
A LOCAL teacher has taken home a prestigious award at this year’s Regional Achievement and Community Awards to add to her impressive list of achievements.

Athena Hain-Saunders of Newton Moore Senior High School was awarded the Curtin University Teaching Excellence Award for her successful teaching methods.

This award will be added to the science teacher’s list of gongs that includes the 2010 Australian Innovative Teacher award.

Ms Hain-Saunders was unable to collect the award on Friday night as she was busy in the United States representing Australasia at the Worldwide Microsoft Partners in Learning Forum.

Newton Moore Senior High School principal Susan Kerr said both the teachers and students were incredibly proud of her achievements.

Mrs Kerr said the science program Ms Hain-Saunders had implemented was hands-on for the students and collated data that would go on to university research projects.

“The practical activities with outside programs keep it interesting for the students,” she said.

“We are extremely excited and she has worked very hard.”
