MARTIAL ARTS: Taekwondo Central's competition team came home with an outstanding result from the Australian Taekwondo Championship held recently in Brisbane.

The team of 10 earned seven gold, three silver and five bronze competing against Australia's best – one of the club's best results.

Morgan Brown impressed with two gold and one bronze – punishing his opponent, cutting him in half with well-timed kicks and aggressive match management.

Rebecca Smith was on fire and at the end of the first one-minute round, led 8-0 before her opponent called it quits, giving Rebecca the gold , as well as her bronze in patterns.

Adult competitor Michelle Patane-Dillon – who already earned a bronze in patterns – clinched the gold in sparring by landing a strong jump-back kick to her opponent's chin.

Other golds were earned by Wade Bragg, whose speed and agility easily disposed of his opponent and Jodie Saggers in a tough black belt division.

The team's 11th member Brendan O'Connor had to have surgery and could not compete, but was still there to support the team.
