FORMER Bunbury DJ and music producer Brett Bogar has proved dreams really do come true after one of his tunes made it to number nine on a global dance music chart last week.
Bogar, who DJs under the moniker Brett Valentine, was ecstatic to wake up and find his latest single Attention had made the top 10 chart on Stompy.com, an online music store dedicated to underground deep and funky house music.
Signed to three labels, Illegal Cargo Records, Balcony Records and Lucid Dreaming Recor-dings, Bogar started out his musical career about 10 years ago as a DJ.
He was part of local drum and bass duo Tymed Conspiracy, who held residencies at Bunbury’s Blue Arrow Bar, Eliot Street Bar and Perth’s Velvet Lounge.
About six years ago Bogar started creating music, and made the switch from drum and bass to house about two years ago.
"My sister took me to my first dance party and later I saw a mate of mine DJing," he said.
"I thought I’d give it a go and picked it up straight away."
Bogar has shared the stage with the likes of drum and bass superstars Dom and Roland, Pendulum’s Rob Squire, Psi Dream and recently played to punters at Busselton’s Southbound Festival.
Bogar’s passion for music started when he was a youngster after he picked up his late father’s guitar.
Of topping the charts Bogar said he was happiest when he found out he debuted at number 79.
"It’s nice to know that a kid from Bunbury can be up there with some of the best producers in the world," he said.
"I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing and who knows where it will lead to.
"Hopefully some interstate or international travel but I’m enjoying keeping it local at the moment."
The talented musician can be found most weekends DJing at exclusive Perth nightspot Wolfe Lane.
Bogar said he owed the people of Bunbury a lot, particularly those who had supported him when he was just starting out and continued to support him now.
