Father’s terrifying ordeal at teen party

3/12/2008 12:00:00 PM
AN Australind business owner has described how he nearly lost his life after being king hit at a party he was helping supervise.

The 44-year-old, who does not want to be identified, said the random attack broke his nose and severed an artery.

The man said he was king hit by a teenager as he was helping friends shut down their daughter’s 16th birthday party.

“I could feel that my nose was broken,” he said.

It was not until about a week later when the swelling went down that the man’s nose started to bleed profusely.

“At one point I was choking on blood,” he said.

Unbeknown to the man, the punch had severed an artery and the seriousness of his injuries soon began to take shape.

After collapsing due to loss of blood he was rushed to Bunbury Regional Hospital and was admitted. He required immediate surgery and a blood transfusion.

“It was the scariest thing that has ever happened in my life,” he said.

“Without the rapid intervention of the ear nose and throat surgeon I could easily have bled to death”

After surgery to repair the severed artery the man was transferred to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service in case of potential complications.

The man said he wanted the incident to serve as a warning to any parents or teenagers about how easily parties can get out of hand.

“It could have cost me my life ... my kids could have been without a dad,” he said.

“They have no understanding of the amount of damage they can do in a moment of stupidity.”

The party had been scheduled for 30 to 40 people, but was posted on the internet. The man estimates there were close to 100 youths at the party.

Australind police were still appealing for witnesses to the incident which occurred at Green Way in Leschenault on November 8 and can be contacted on 97970222.
