Foodbank’s vaults empty

04 Nov, 2009 12:39 PM
BUNBURY’S Foodbank is running out of food and needs public support to keep feeding local families.

A Rotary Club initiative, Foodbank is a major contributor to the health and welfare of hundreds of local families and children.

Its school breakfast program provides food to more than 30 schools in Bunbury and the South West.

Foodbank volunteer Paul McBride said their shelves were fast becoming bare and urged the public to donate to the charity which has a drop off point at the Marlston Waterfront Markets every Sunday.

Bunbury Mayor David Smith also urged locals to donate any dry or unperishable food items to Foodbank.

"Despite the economic turnaround families are still facing financial difficulties," he said.

"More and more families need the service that Foodbank provides.

"We all need to be giving our support to make sure their shelves are full in the lead up to Christmas."

People who want to help can drop off items at the markets or at the Foodbank depot at 5 Clifford Street, Halifax.
