Jordan equal to the challenge

23 Sep, 2008 04:48 PM
A LOCAL student was named one of the top 20 mathematics students in the State recently.

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Year 8 student Jordan Lockhart took part in the Australian Schools Mathematics Competition last month achieving a high enough score to be included in the top 100 percentile of WA.

The test consisted of 30 problem solving questions which increased in difficulty as the test progressed.

Jordan said he was not overly confident going into the test and was surprised to learn he had done so well.

“Maths is challenging and I enjoy it,” he said.

“You’re always learning new stuff and it would come in handy with a lot of jobs.”

The talented academic took home a $40 voucher and merit certificate.

The head of the maths learning department Adrian Bandy said Jordan was the fourth BCGS student in five years to achieve such an accolade and it showed what a hard worker Jordan was.
