THE Perth to Bunbury Highway project is 93 per cent complete with an expected opening in early of August 2009.
Community Relations Manager Tammy Mitchell the focus was now on completing the asphalt works on the Kwinana Freeway extension at the north section of the project.
Ms Mitchell said Southern Gateway Alliance was very pleased with the progress of the project.
“We hope to open the road to traffic some four months ahead of the original schedule and we are very proud of this,” she said.
“We are also very grateful for the support and tolerance the local community has shown and look forward to handing over this fabulous piece of infrastructure for all Western Australians to enjoy.”
Achieving the target opening date in August will still be dependent upon a range of factors, including cold or wet weather which can effect the paving operations.
More than 150,000 tonnes of asphalt has been placed on the freeway by up to four crews working concurrently.
On the Forrest Highway, pavement marking is nearing completion with about 39km of the dual carriageway marked and the majority of guide posts installed.
Work still to be completed includes items such as lighting, signage, line marking and landscaping, along with constructing the remaining sections of the noise wall and principle shared path (for pedestrians and cyclists).
