Office heed donation calls

08 Feb, 2012 08:58 AM
EMPLOYEES from South West MLC Adele Farina’s office responded to the call out for blood donations by rolling up their sleeves at the Bunbury Blood Donor Centre last Friday.

Ms Farina and her team made the pledge together after the Red Cross reported low blood stocks across the state late last year.

Ms Farina urged other Bunbury businesses and individuals to follow in their footsteps and help to save lives.

“It doesn’t take much time and is a great way to do something positive for the community,’ she said.

“Most fit and healthy people aged between 16 and 70 are able to give blood, however currently only 3 per cent of Australians donate blood or blood products each year,” she said.

“We all need to do our part to improve this poor statistic.”

Blood donations are used for people with cancer and blood diseases, surgical and other medical problems and for people experiencing trauma including road accidents.

Find out if you are eligible to donate blood and book an appointment online at www.donateblood.com.au or by phoning 13 14 95.
