BUNBURY has been blasted by a record heat not experienced for more than 20 years.
The past two months were the driest on record for the region since the summer of 1974/75.
A mere .2mm of rain has fallen over Bunbury since November which is well under the long term average for the same time period of 23.7mm.
This is in direct contrast to the wettest summer on record in 1981/82 when 163.8mm of rain fell from the heavens.
The last time it rained in the city was on December 29 last year.
The hottest day so far was on January 17 with a scorching 40.6 degrees making it the hottest day on record since 1995.
Bureau of Meteorology climate services officer John Relf said Bunbury had experienced its warmest start to summer on record.
"The average January temperature was 31.6 degrees," Mr Relf said.
"The long term average for January is 30.4 degrees."
January 11 Bunbury residents felt a cool change with the lowest maximum of the month hitting 24.2 degrees.
Residents tossed and turned on January 19 as they tried to sleep through the highest minimum temperature of 22.8 degrees.
The coolest night time temperature was the very first day of 2010 on January 1 when it was a cool and comfortable 8.2 degrees.
Mr Relf said the forecast for the next few days was going to be on a slightly cooler note.
"Enjoy the respite while you can," he said.
Today is expected to top 26 degrees followed by 27 on Thursday, 30 on Friday and 26 with a few showers on Saturday.
