THE first of nine new social housing properties to be built in Dalyellup was opened last Friday
The $400,000 Ventura built home was the first to be released in regional WA.
Access Housing service manager for the South West Kathryn Mooney said the tenants who would be going into this home were ecstatic.
“They cannot wait to get the keys,” she said.
“We think they would have been on the waiting list for more than a couple of years.
“They are a family of six and cannot wait to be in.”
The home will be managed by Access Housing Australia Ltd and chief executive officer Garry Ellender was thrilled at the opening of the first home.
“We want to offer social housing, affordable housing and home ownership to those less fortunate,” he said.
“We are an alternative to Homes West – we offer rentals across the spectrum and cater to a broader range of people.”
There are currently more than 100 social properties in Greater Bunbury.
The four bedroom, two bathroom home has been modified for people with disabilities.
Department of Housing project manager Mendo Stepanovski said it was important to make sure the homes were built to last.
“We make sure the homes have a six star energy rating when they’re built,” he said.
“We don’t want the tenants to have to be paying for extra things they don’t have to.”
