HASTIE Street has become a hive of activity as major repairs start on homes damaged by a tornado four months ago.
Homes in Mangles and Carey Park were the worst hit when the tornado hit unexpectedly on June 5 bringing rain, hail and winds in excess of 130kmh.
Windows were broken, roofs torn off and peri-meter fences and brick walls flattened by the wind storm.
Trees were blown over sending debris and play equipment hundreds of metres along the street.
Moss Street resident Dave Cahill said he was working in Dardanup when he heard from a neighbour that the storm had hit and his roof had blown off.
"My wife was at home when it struck and she quickly put the kids in the bedroom when parts of the roof started flying off," Mr Cahill said.
"We quickly tarped the roof and helped out the neighbours across the road who lost their roof entirely."
Mr Cahill said there was between $20,000 to $30,000 worth of damage to his property.
The family spent five weeks in temporary accommodation with family and friends while their insurance claim was processed.
Mr Cahill, who runs his own plastering business was putting the finishing touches to the interior ceilings of his home along with some extra features that will have his place looking like new in just over a month.
"In hindsight, we had planned to do all these little odd maintenance jobs before the tornado hit, which then turned it into one major repair job," he said.
