Violent syringe swap assault

06 Jan, 2010 10:24 AM
POLICE are calling on the public to help identify a male person who used a syringe to threaten a volunteer worker before punching him in the head numerous times, resulting in bruising and blurred vision.

The volunteer was part of a syringe exchange program helping benefit the community by providing a hygienic and safe place to dispose of used syringes.

The attack occurred in Jaycee Park on Forrest Avenue, Carey Park at about 9pm on Wednes-day December 22.

The suspect is described as a short, dark skinned Aboriginal male with short hair, about 20 years old and was wearing a red hooded jumper and shorts

The attacker was in company with a younger Aboriginal male, about eight years old, who was wearing a red tank top and shorts.

Due to the severity of the attack on the volunteer worker and the likelihood that further attacks can not be discounted the needle exchange program may be put on hold until the attacker is caught.

Any witnesses or persons with information regarding this matter are urged to contact the Bunbury Police Station on 9722 2111.
