Woman killed on Australind Bypass

12 Nov, 2009 10:51 AM
AN 18-year-old woman has been killed in a crash on the intersection of the Australind Bypass and Hynes Road about 7.30am this morning.

South West traffic officer in charge Gerard Murphy said it appeared the woman in a Holden Commodore failed to give way to a stop sign and went through the intersection before being hit by a Nissan Patrol.

Sgt Murphy said there were witnesses who saw the Holden Commodore speeding and overtaking other vehicles on Hynes Road before the crash.

Sgt Murphy said the male driver of the Nissan was attended to by ambulance officers and was shaken.

Traffic heading towards Bunbury along the bypass was reduced to one lane then diverted.

Both vehicles were towed from the site.

Sgt Murphy said the wet weather had not played a role in the crash.

But he said he was surprised people were not driving to the wet conditions and taking their time on the road.

Sam Martin said he heard the accident three kilometres away from his home in Eaton.

Mr Martin said he heard squealing brakes and impact noise before going to find where the accident was and was shocked by what he saw.

This story is about one of my best friends. She will be missed deeply!!!!!! Please everyone learn from this, know that this could happen to the best of us.

I personally think that drivers under the age of 25 should NOT be aloud to drive such powerful cars!!!!

The government is complaining that most of car accidents are caused by young people under the age of 25, well then they should get of there backsides and make it illegal for people up to the age of 25 to have anything over a four cylinder. R.I.P.

What is it with P platers hooning around Bunbury & speeding all the time? Everywhere i go i get overtaken or tailgated by some foolish P plate driver. The actions of a few are labelling everyone. It's no wonder older drivers throm all P plate drivers in the same boat. The road rules are there to protect people. What if this woman survived but killed somebody else? To all P plate drivers in Bunbury, this could be you if you don't obey the road rules.

Young drivers and Holden Commodores just don't get along. Hey, kids out there, don't you get it? Another young life wasted, another very sad day. My thoughts are with the family!
