BUNBURY’s Tesla man has done it again.
This time, the spectacle is a nine metre high multi-colour Christmas tree, complete with Bunbury doctor and Tesla specialist Peter Terren as Father Christmas.
Mr Terren took the photograph using a two minute long exposure and special filters on his SLR camera.
The time delay allows Mr Terren to appear in the photo when the coil is off.
A Tesla coil is a transformer that can amplify power up to 500,000 volts, which creates lightening like spikes when it earths.
“What you can see in person is just a white sort of light, the colours are done by putting filters in front of the camera at certain stages,” he said.
Mr Terren turned to the artistic potential of Tesla coil photography after winning an SLR camera in a Sunday Times newspaper competition with a photograph of a Tesla spike.
“I’m really focused on the art and the spectacle of it now,” he said.
Mr Terren has received international acclaim for his work, the most well known of which is his modern remake of Rodin’s Thinker, pictured.
His fourth appearance on the Discovery Channel was filmed at his Gelorup home recently, his work has appeared in 15 countries, and he’s in Ripley’s Believe it or Not.
“It sort of snowballed,” Mr Terren said.
However, kids, don’t try this at home
“Everything I do is illegal,” he said.
“I have my own precautions and safety checks, but there is a risk.”
