EQUESTRIAN: This year’s Bunbury Breed Spectacular was the biggest yet, with 266 horses entered in last Sunday’s show at the Bunbury Trotting Track.
The unexpected number of entries caused some delay in the classes, putting some rings behind by more than two hours.
Organiser Kim Thomas said the show was one of the smoothest the South West Show Horse Society had ever run.
“We’ve had good reports all round, it was just great,” she said.
The show had a good spread of breeds, with Show Hunter being the most well-attended category.
Feature breed the Welsh pony of all types attracted a lot of entries, with Thomas’ own perennial champion San-Del Popstar again taking out the Supreme Welsh Section A pony.
Welsh D Section stallion Acheron Splash of Magic, handled by 20 year old Jessica Horn from Byford, was awarded Supreme Welsh Exhibit, Supreme of Supremes Pony Exhibit and Grand Champion of Show.
Arabian Derivative Willowcroft American Beauty was awarded Supreme of Supremes , with Supreme Palomino and Supreme Quarter-horse Y Rulez R Breakin another standout.
The crowd was captivated by imported Gypsy Cob mare Clononeen Little Dorret.
The breed is relatively new to Australia and owner Lyn Archibald spent the day fielding questions about the breed.
It was the first time most showgoers had seen the striking and docile horse who was awarded Supreme show horse and supreme registered any other breed.
In the ridden classes Warmblood Matavia Rivendell was awarded Supreme Ridden Exhibit.
