TAEKWONDO: Jasmine Klumpp has made the next big step in her quest for excellence by earning a spot in the Australian team to compete at the Common-wealth Taekwondo Championships in Chennai, India.
It is another big step for the Taekwondo Central black belt’s goal of making the London 2012 Olympics.
The 17-year-old earned her position in the team after winning the Australian Taekwondo Black Belt Open Title this year.
The championships are her lead up to the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships and the London Games.
Currently celebrating the end of her Year 12, Jasmine will soon lock into intense training during the hot summer to prepare for India’s hot, harsh environment.
"Her progress has been great, she is continually improving and gaining greater experience against high quality opponents - that has also give us valuable information on how to improve Jasmine’s game", her instructor Justin Warren said.
"Jasmine is quietly confident she will perform well but also understands it will be no easy task."
Taekwondo will gain status as a Commonwealth Games sport in 2014 after it gained Olympic status at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
