ATHLETICS: Julia Phillips and Georgia Braund dominated their events to return with gold medals from the Gosnells Multi Events at Langford Park on Saturday.

Five junior athletes from the Bunbury Athletics Club competed against leading Perth and country athletes from Bunbury, Collie and Northam.

In multi events competition, athletes compete in five different events - hurdles, 800m, long jump, 100m and discus - for points which are totalled at the end of the day to determine their placings.

Braund’s wins in 100m and the 90m hurdles set her up for the under 15s gold medal.

She also set a personal best of 4.76 metres to win the long jump

Rachel Austin set a new personal best of 2 minutes 45 seconds to finish first in an excellent 800m on her way to a silver medal.

Austin also placed second in the l00m and the 90m hurdles and set another personal best in the long jump with 4.26 metres.

Julia Phillips placed first overall in the under 16s to win the gold medal.

Phillips could not be caught in the 100m, sprinting across the finish line first in just 13.63 seconds, and also placed first in the long jump, second in the 90m hurdles and third in the discus.

Under 17 Erienne Lette ran a solid 100m hurdles keeping the pressure on the leader all the way finishing in second place.

Lette placed third in both the long jump and the 100m to end the day with a fourth overall placing.

Luke Vincent broke Gosnells centre’s open record in fine style with his throw of 38.48 metres to place first in the discuss.

Vincent also competed in the 200m, 800m and the long jump.
