Medal haul from Sydney

06 Dec, 2000 07:11 PM
TAEKWONDO Central finished off the competition year with astounding results.

The B team won 10 gold medals at the South West Championships and the A team sent eight competitors to the Australian Taekwondo Championships in Sydney who returned with five gold and three silver medals.

The new Australian champions are Erin Bezant (12), Kurt Kozyrski (17), Tristan Garwood (18), Darryl Tink (25) and Greg Ventris (17).

This is Greg Ventris’ second Australian title. After not having an Under 18 division, he was put up to open division and was still strong enough for the national’s.

Erin Bezant showed mental toughness to fight through an injury to win a tough division and Darryl Tink made an incredible comeback from 0-1 behind in the first round to win 5-1.

Tristan Garwood landed a perfect jumping back kick on his opponent’s head, temporarily stunning him.

Kurt Kozyrski was too classy for his opponent who was Olympic team competitor Carlo Massamino’s student.

Runners-up include Danny McDonald (28), Chris Jordan (23) and Daniel Bezant (36) who won Central’s first Australian Patterns medals.
