Young stars scoop gold in the pool

SWIMMING: Last Sunday saw more than 300 swimmers from 25 clubs from across the State converge on the South West Sports Centre for the 35th South West Open Carnival.

Competition was very keen at the Bunbury Swimming Club hosted event and local members shared success during a very full program.

Jordon Kendall, 12, dominated the pool to win seven gold medals in the 50m and 100m distances for butterfly, backstroke freestyle as well as the 200m individual medley.

Adele Schultz, 14, gave a strong performance to win five gold medals including 50m backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke.

Lyndon Goldsmith, 14, proved that training pays, winning three gold, three silver and one bronze medal.

Ryan Evernden, 15, won two gold medals for 100m breaststroke and the 200m individual medley and took home six silver medals.

Sixteen-year-old Kate Bird also had a full program and won gold for her 50m breaststroke, four silver and a hat trick of bronze.

Taylor Mason, 16, took four gold in the 50m disciplines, while siblings Jacob, (11), and Isabel, (10), Dubois made their debut.

Jacob won gold for his 50m butterfly and a bronze, while Isabel earned two bronze medals.

Jessica Tan, 13, took silver in the 50m freestyle, while Jessica Banks, 15, won bronze for 50m backstroke, and Aidan Daggett, 9, won bronze for 50m backstroke.

Flynn Davies, 9, also earned bronze for his efforts in the 50m butterfly event.
