A former music teacher at a prestigious Perth boys school has been convicted of the rape of a pupil almost 30 years ago.
Lindsay Hutchinson, 63, was charged with 15 offences concerning his time as a music teacher and organist at the exclusive Claremont Christ Church Grammar in the mid 80s.
Hutchinson was extradited from his home in Melbourne in 2011 to face the charges in Perth.
At the time of his arrest he was employed by the Melbourne College of Divinity.
He admitted to some of the lesser charges including those related to molesting young boys, but had denied the more serious offences, which included rape.
On Thursday a Perth jury took just under four hours to decide on guilty verdicts for all 12 contested charges.
The bulk of the offences relate to a man who was 13 years old in 1984 when he was first molested by Hutchinson.
Now an adult man he sat in the back of the court room and held onto supporters' hands as the jury's verdict was read out.
Hutchin's two-week Perth District Court trial heard details of how he had touched the boy in the deanery at Perth's St George's Cathedral and on trips.
Other former students told of photographs Mr Hutchinson had taken of them in their bathers for a fake "speedo competition" he had contrived.
Hutchinson admitted to molesting multiple young boys when he took to the stand in his defence of the rape allegations at trial.
He described finding the boys "appealing" and admitted to simulating sex with one boy during a trip because he wanted to "experiment with the sensation."
He is due to be sentenced on April 5.
