CRICKET: Western Fury’s pre-season will go up a notch this weekend with the City versus Country series in Bunbury.
The series involves playing two matches at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday they will fight it out for 50 overs and will then do battle on Sunday with a T20 match.
The Fury squad will also put on a free Girls Development clinic at the school from 8.30am to 9.30am on the Sunday before the T20 match.
Fury coach Steve Jenkin encouraged young girls to get down for the opportunity to meet WA’s top female cricketers.
“The idea is to encourage girls from outside Perth to play cricket,” Jenkin said.
“We also want to put something back into regional cricket and give young girls something to aspire to.”
Among the Western Fury players include Bunbury raised Chloe Piparo and Gemma Triscari.
WACA Chief Executive Officer Christina Matthews recently visited the South West region and several cricket associations in the area.
She admitted there was scope for a Women’s National Cricket League match to be played in Bunbury in the near future.
