A FORMER Bunbury man has unwittingly put the South West’s marine life on the map with a viral YouTube video.
Twenty-eight-year-old Scott Murray, who now lives in Perth, was back in Bunbury visiting his parents over Christmas and was lucky enough to score a Go Pro camera, dubbed as the “world’s most versatile camera” for its ability to go almost anywhere, including underwater.
Mr Murray thought he would give the new toy a go and attached it to a crab net off the coast of Busselton and also submerged it in the Leschenault Inlet.
The results were surprising, with the video featuring an inquisitive crab, a ray and a dolphin.
“We couldn’t get over it, we were blown away with what we saw,” Mr Murray said.
The video has attracted more than 350,000 hits on YouTube with comments flowing in from across the globe.
“I only uploaded it to YouTube because I couldn’t email it to my dad – when I went to bed yesterday it had about 6000 views, then in the morning there was more than 250,000, it was crazy,” he said.
Mr Murray said while he had not intended the video to gain any glory, it had put Bunbury and Busselton’s marine life on the international radar.
