This year I have noticed a proliferation of food vans in Bunbury, selling everything from curry to snow cones.
The trouble is, we never know where they will be.
This, and experience travelling interstate and overseas, leads me to suggest the establishment of a "pop-up" outdoor food hall.
One night of the week (maybe Friday or Saturday) through summer all the vans would be invited to set up at the same location, creating a market-like atmosphere where families could come and picnic.
The carpark opposite the Runners Club would be ideal as there are plenty of tables, lawn, a playground and toilets already there. If this was a success it could be expanded to include other market stalls.
The establishment of a pop-up food hall provides employment to locally owned businesses and would create an easy, fun night out for families and tourists.
We don't have a street mall or night markets to attract people in the evenings, and walking and picnicking along the Back Beach on a warm night, meeting up with family and friends, would create a great community atmosphere.
Anyone who has been to the Mindal Markets in Darwin will agree – going to dinner at the food vans there is a must-do for locals and tourists.
Maybe one of the Bunbury City councillors will take on this idea?
Linda Brown, Bunbury.
