Despite missing out on the chance to host Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food pop-up kitchen, the South West Institute of Technology should be congratulated for their efforts in trying to bring this great event to Bunbury.
I was saddened to hear Mr Oliver announce over the weekend an interstate winner for the competition and that we will now not have the opportunity to be the host of a pop-up kitchen for the next year.
We should not look at this as a lost opportunity but as a positive sign of how people in our community work together to achieve benefits for all and how we can do better next time.
We should all be thankful to those from the South West Institute of Technology who worked so hard to show Mr Oliver what Bunbury could have brought to his program.
I am not sure if we will have another chance to apply next year, but I would like to let all those involved that the whole city is behind you to give it another shot.
Bunbury is heading in the right direction with all the wonderful ideas floated to help improve our city – not least of which the suggestion to offer a pop-up hawker food market on a Friday or Saturday night – so we should all continue to get behind these great ideas.
Further, even though we will miss out on Mr Oliver’s educational and healthy cooking programs, there is no reason we cannot promote this kind of healthy eating ourselves.
