SOMETIMES all it takes to break down social barriers is a common interest.
For budding Bunbury photographer and Art Partners mentee Sam Everitt, he just needed a little extra help.
Art Partners is a mentorship program that matches people with disability with mentors.
Together they attend mainstream art classes and activities in Bunbury.
Recognising his flair for photography, the program approached Mr Everitt with an offer to help grow his passion.
He was matched with mentor Verity Lee who helped him join the Photography Group of Bunbury.
Since then Mr Everitt’s talent has been recognised with a number of exhibitions in Bunbury and Perth.
His latest, titled Florals In Frames, depicts floral images from the Chelsea Garden Show in the United Kingdom.
The images were shown at Bunbury City Library, with one piece from the collection featured in Art in the City, an Art Partners exhibition series of solo works.
The photographs are now on display at Southern Picture Fra-mers.
Art Partners Program Officer Wanda Ariano said Mr Everitt’s natural talent for photography is what first drew the organisation’s eye.
“We’ve been supporting him through a range of exhibitions opportunities in Bunbury and Perth,” Ms Ariano said.
“What that mentor does is help set the standard and encourages participation.
“It is just about normalising difficult stuff for people.”
