A CLASS of social work students will swap their usual lecturers for the likes of Australian demographer Bernard Salt and American futurist Jim Lee when they attend an upcoming conference for free.

The students will receive complimentary tickets to the Critical Horizons event taking place in Bunbury next month, thanks to a partnership between Edith Cowan University and the South West Development Commission.

Commission chief executive officer Don Punch said he was pleased the State Government organisation was able to give local students the opportunity to enhance their knowledge about changing communities.

“The conference will touch on a range of themes that are relevant to growing cities and towns around the South West,” he said.

“Guest speakers will talk about how communities are adapting to ageing populations, trends and prospects in home ownership, people-oriented towns, and the future of families and relationships.”

The Critical Horizons conference, titled Communities of the 21st Century, will be held in new Cube Theatre at the Bunbury Regional Ente-rtainment Centre on Thursday May 15.
