A PASSING motorist has saved the life of a Bunbury man following a horrific crash near Collie on Thursday afternoon.
The quick-thinking passerby pulled the unconscious 22-year-old passenger from the flaming wreckage and extinguished the fire.
The 20-year-old driver of the vehicle was unable to be saved and died at the scene.
About 3pm Thursday a Ford Falcon utility was being driven south west on the Collie-Williams Road.
The vehicle left the road onto the gravel verge and slid into a tree.
The driver’s side of the car struck the tree, causing significant damage.
"Had it not been for the actions of the passing motorist, it is believed the fire would have engulfed the whole vehicle and the passenger may not have survived," a police spokesman said.
The passenger was taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital.
