A CAPEL man with a life-time driving ban was arrested in Gelorup on Friday afternoon after fleeing from police.
The man, who had ignored the ban and was driving, sped away from South West Traffic officers on Friday afternoon as they tried to flag him down.
Police say the man was driving at 120 kilometres per hour hour in an 80 zone on Bussell Highway.
The officers chased the man but abandoned the pursuit when it became too dangerous.
South West Traffic acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Robert Malcolm said members of the public directed officers to the abandoned car in bushland a short time later.
“With the assistance of the Traffic Enforcement Group, officers searched bushland for over an hour before arresting a 28-year-old man,” Sergeant Malcolm said.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a sword and a disguised knife.
The man was charged with reckless driving, failing to stop, no authority to drive, possession of a controlled weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, speeding and breach of bail.
Sergeant Malcolm said there were also other charges pending.
