TRIATHLON: Bunbury triathlete Ryan Bailie has taken his career to the next level, being selected to represent Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The 23-year-old has been competing on the international stage since 2011 and gained three top 10 finishes in the ITU World Triathlon series in 2013.
Bailie completed the 2013 season ranked second in Australia and 17th in the world.
“As a kid we all have dreams to go to the Olympics and Commonwealth Games and I was no different,” he said.
“I received a phone call last week which confirmed my selection for the event in Glasgow later this year.
“It just goes to show that dreams do sometimes come true with a lot of hard work and belief.”
Bailie said life as a professional athlete was not easy but it was worth it.
“Times have been tough along the way and set backs have occurred,” he said.
“Like any sporting career it has been these tough times that have only made me stronger in the long run and any success that little bit sweeter.
“What an honour and accomplishment it will be to wear the green and gold in Glasgow.”
The Commonwealth Games run from July 23 to August 3 while Bailie’s next race will be the Cape Town world series triathlon in South Africa in April 27.
