IT is a dream of many young children to become a firefighter.
But what does it take to pursue a career protecting Bunbury homes and businesses?
According to Bunbury Fire Station officer Lexie Bowring it involves a lot of training, the right attitude and the ability to work in a team.
The station will commemorate the legacy of firefighters who have lost their lives in the course of duty for International Firefighters Day in May.
The Bunbury crew will perform vehicle rescue and kitchen fire demonstrations, a fire truck display and finish things off with a sausage sizzle.
Ms Bowring said it was good to get out into the community and show off what they could do.
“It’s a good time to be out in the community and be seen, Ms Bowring said.
“International Fire-fighters Day is special for the service.”
A minute silence will be observed during the morning’s activities.
Ms Bowring had some advice for any aspiring fireys.
“There is a fairly extensive selection process,” she said.
[We] look for people with a bit of life experience, a good education, good fitness and maybe a bit of community work.”
The event will be held at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell on May 4 from 10am.
