FOOTBALL: Following on from their successful Landmark Country Football Carnival premiership, five South West Football League players have been named in the WA Country Football League state team.
Eaton’s William Barnes, Bunbury’s Marc Re, Donnybrook’s Simon Parry and Jeff Smith and Busselton’s Daniel McGinlay have all been named in the side which will travel to South Australia to take on the South Australian Community Football League side on Saturday.
State assistant coach and selector Shane Darmody said he was confident the selectors had put together a strong side for the interstate match-up.
“All the players selected were really enthusiastic about the game and proud to be representing their state,” he said.
“We owe South Australia a couple, so the boys are looking forward to getting over there and giving it a crack.”
The game will be played as a curtain raiser to the Port Adelaide vs Adelaide SANFL match on July 26 at Alberton Oval in Adelaide.
The rest of the players from the premiership winning Landmark Carnival side will now return to their regular clubs to contest round 12 of the season.
Saturday night sees Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault host Collie at Brunswick Oval while Eaton take a road-trip down to Gloucester Park to play Augusta-Margaret River.
On Sunday South Bunbury will be looking to keep their run of good form alive against Busselton at Hands Oval, Carey Park will hope to push their claims for a finals birth when they host the Bunbury Bulldogs at Kelly Park and Harvey will be hoping to take the four points against Donnybrook.
