A SEVERE weather warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for people in the South West district including those near or between Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury and Mandurah.
A moderate to strong cold front will move over the South West of the state during Saturday morning and early afternoon.
The weather system is likely to cause localised damaging winds to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in damage to homes and property.
Damaging winds are likely south west of a line from Bunbury to Walpole.
Thunderstorms are also possible and the winds are expected to ease early Saturday afternoon.
Higher than normal tides are likely between Bunbury and Cape Naturaliste during Saturday morning and while this is typical weather for this time of the year, winds may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should do the following:
- If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
- Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
- Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
- If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
- Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
