A PLAN to provide better support to Bunbury people bereaved by suicide and to prevent further loss of life will be developed next month.
A workshop led by the National Standby Response Service will be held in Bunbury, inviting key community response services and groups to establish an effective and coordinated plan to provide early intervention and local support to families, friends and associates bereaved through suicide.
The national service arrived in Bunbury this week following a number of recent youth suicides in the region.
National service coordinator Jill Fisher said it was important for a clear pathway to exist for bereaved people to access and receive support from within their local community.
“People who have experienced the trauma of losing a friend or loved one to suicide are not always able to articulate their need or may require different types of support at different times,” Ms Fisher said.
“The workshops will ensure that all parties involved are clear about their roles and are able to offer coordinated local support services which will not only provide much-needed support, but will also assist in preventing further suicidal behaviour.”
The Pathways to Care workshop will be held at the Bunbury Powerboat Club at Lyons Cove, Sykes Foreshore Reserve Bunbury on August 21 starting at 9.30am.
The Pathways to Care workshop will be followed by the Crossing the River training session to provide skills and strategies for those supporting people bereaved by suicide and their local community.
