MORE than 30 mothers from across Greater Bunbury met at the Eaton Recreation Centre today, Friday August 1, to take part in the worldwide Big Latch-On event.
The Big Latch-On was created in an effort to bring the topic of breastfeeding to a global stage.
Every year thousands of women and their babies gather in their communities to take part in the synchronized breastfeeding event.
More than 40 percent of West Australians do not breastfeed their babies past six months of age.
Health department nutrition policy advisor Christina Pollard said babies should be breastfed exclusively for six months and then breastfeeding should continue for another six months while the baby is introduced to other foods.
World Breastfeeding Week runs from August 1 to 7.
The Eaton event was organised by the Bunbury Babywearing Community, in conjunction with the Australian Breastfeeding Association Bunbury Group, South West Doulas and Eaton Recreation Centre.
