FOOTBALL: Any remaining doubt that South Bunbury were not favourites for the South West Football League premiership were all but extinguished on Sunday afternoon with the side capturing an entertaining victory over their cross-town rivals Bunbury.
The tigers came out firing in the first quarter with Brett Robinson booting home three goals to give his side a five goal lead at quarter time.
Quarter time gave Bun-bury a chance to regroup with Marc Re and Aidan Parker both posting early majors.
But goals to Brynn Francis and Leigh Kohlmann kept the Tigers five goals infront at the main break.
Codey Hay shone as a bright light in defence for the Bulldogs in the third quarter but his sides midfield struggled to get the ball forward.
Goals to Clint Garlett and Myles Smythe kept the margin to 20 points but late goals to Tyson Lee and a sweetly timed bomb from Adam Hunter blew the margin back out to 47 points at the final change.
Bunbury hit South Bunbury with a full-scale attack in the final quarter and despite Re and Parker piling on six goals between them it was too little, too late.
South Bunbury took home the four premiership points with an 18.13.121 to 14.6.90 win and takes them to the top of the league ladder.
South Bunbury will face off against Eaton this weekend, a side they drew with earlier in the season before easily winnable games against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and Augusta-Margaret River leading into the finals.
Bunbury will contest the Peter Betti Memorial Cup against Donnybrook this weekend before a trip to Collie and a final round clash against Eaton.
