GIG: It’s the life many young lads could only dream of while bashing away in a garage jam session.
Travelling the world with your best mates, rolling from party to party and giving everyone a good time.
It’s the life of Brisbane band Dune Rats and they are keen to keep it going for as long as their livers hold out.
Discovered by Triple J Unearthed in the Brisbane leg of the 2012 Big Day Out, it has been a hectic couple of years for the boys but they have gathered a lot of fans and wild experiences along the way.
They will arrive in Bunbury next month to rock Barbados Lounge Bar with their unique brand of fast and loose, described by the Dunies as “dunecore stoner pop.”
Guitarist and vocalist Danny Beusa spoke to the Bunbury Mail in the lead-up to the gig about what to look out for when the boys are in town.
“At the moment we are chilling for a week or two before we head off to Bali to play a few shows,” he said.
“We are lucky coz the Indos love our stuff, we get over there and have a pretty ruckus time.
“So hopefully we will roll into WA looking all bronzed with braided hair – hopefully no one will start a fight with us.”
Casting his mind back to the early days, Beusa said it was just himself and BC Michaels and then they just kept throwing different bass players in the mix to “steal their coolness”, but now Brett Jansch has rounded out the trio.
In the end as corny as it sounds, we are just three f***ing tight dudes who get to travel all over the place drinking beers and having fun, we are lucky.

“It’s felt like it has gone by pretty quick but we have turned out pretty ugly – with saggy eyes and bad livers, but it’s been really fun,” he said.

New single Superman is the life of the Dunies in a nutshell, paying homage to their adventures across the globe and the good mates that join them on the ride.
“I love this song, it’s for all our mates that are just hellmen, we took them over to America and they just come along to all the shows, jump off the stage, get loose and just make sure we are having a sick time,” he said.
“People say our shows are fast and loose but that’s not really by choice or planned, the kids force us to be like that, there’s more room on stage so they jump up and thrash around.
“In Europe kids would just pour beer on our pedals and stuff, must be a European thing, but over here they just jump on stage which we f***ing love.”
The lads are keen to check out the South West’s famous coastline, not having been able to spend a lot of time in Bunbury in the past.
“We’ve been told there’s waves down there but we haven’t actually seen them, in the past on tours we haven’t been able to get any lower than Fremantle, but if we are doing a national tour we need to go to all of Australia,” Beusa said.
“Some bands announce national tours and don’t even go to WA, that’s frustrating.”
The Dune Rats will hit Barbados Lounge Bar on Thursday, September 11.
