EDITORIAL: As the worst of Sunday night’s storm passed and the huge clean-up effort began, the City of Bunbury was forced to put out an urgent message.
They implored residents to stay away from the worst-hit areas of Carey Park while emergency crews worked to clear the area and repair damage to properties.
The City had received reports of motorists using the area to “sight-see”, making it difficult for staff to do their job.
At the Bunbury Mail office, we were being inundated with photos from the community of their damaged homes or nearby debris.
The photos were compiled in an online gallery which made it quite easy to get a front-row seat to the extent of the storm’s wrath from your computer or phone.
So our message to readers is don’t deliberately drive to storm damage or a crash site just to have a look.
But at the same time, if you do come across news happening, send any photos or video to editor.bunburymail@fairfaxmedia.com.au or call 9722 5555.
We do appreciate the contributions from our roving community reporters so keep them coming!
