A CAMPAIGN has been launched to bring together Bunbury residents unhappy with a City of Bunbury council decision to reduce their own numbers from 12 to eight.
A split council voted in favour of reducing their own numbers over three years in June, but the Local Government Advisory Board, tasked with scrutinising local government changes, asked the City to advertise their reduction for six weeks as they did not view it as a “minor” matter.
Council voted to accept this recommendation last week.
During the meeting Mayor Gary Brennan, who supports the reduction, expressed his disappointment at having to revisit the proposal.
The campaign calling on residents to contribute their feedback was officially launched at the Bunbury Library on Monday night.
Campaign leader John Sherwood said a target of at least 400 responses would be set.
“Fundamentally we are convinced that we’ll get a better representation of the whole community with a full 12 elected members,” Mr Sherwood said.
