EQUESTRIAN: South West riders are celebrating after they took victory in the state dressage championships in Perth last weekend.
Riders from the Bunbury Horse and Pony Club rode in pairs to claim victory in the Stuart Harkness competition.
Riders Owen Ott from Donnybrook and Teagan Berichon from Bunbury had to ride their mounts in a mirror image dressage test.
The last time the event was won by a South West entrant was in 1989.
Ott also was also part of the four rider team which rode for the South West to finish third in the zone team challenge.
He was joined by Candice Dahlstrom from Donnybrook and Emilia Forrest and Chloe Williams from Busselton.
A second team consisting of Australind’s Kate Eiszele, Busselton’s Olivia Lodge and Isabel Reeve and Ashton Tompsett from Dardanup placed sixth.
Rounding out the South West’s success was Sadie Martin and her partner Chloe Williams, both from Busselton, who finished second in the Wanda Nelson ridden pairs for children aged 11 to 13.
Every rider who competed in the event had qualified for the weekend over a number of events in the past 12 months by meeting averages in their dressage scores.
In total 179 riders from across the state competed.
