Joe Francis: 'I wouldn't want him next door either'

Speaking to the media in response to residents' concerns about the location of Patrick Comeagain, Mr Francis said he sympathised with them, but determining a suitable location was a complex issue.

"I wouldn't want them living next door to me either, but where would you have him be?" he said.

"If he couldn't have been kept in a country town because there was no police station close enough - there will always be something somewhere that makes that location unsuitable in someone's eyes.

"Where would you put him that was suitable? It's a tough question."

Comeagain was run out of a regional WA town earlier this year and has faced court several times in recent months charged with breaching his bail conditions.

His current address - believed to be among a block of units containing at-risk residents - is the subject of a suppression order and cannot be released.

Comeagain was released in June on a strict supervision order with 43 conditions, including curfews and constant GPS monitoring.

Mr Francis said he was confident the Department of Corrective Services was doing all it could to ensure those conditions were adhered to.

"If you went back 20 years and you were sentenced for the crimes and offences that he was found guilty of, you would do your time and you would be released with no tracking, with no monitoring, with no conditions," he said.

"This isn't a man that has been granted early release, this isn't a man who has been granted parole or bail, this is a man who did his time and was held for another four years."

Mr Francis would not be drawn on the whereabouts of Comeagain.

"There was a rumour going around that he was up in Clarkson somewhere and, I can tell you, just because you see a tubby Aboriginal man with a goatee driving a green ute, doesn't mean it's Patrick Comeagain," Mr Francis said.

"Someone could well get hurt here and it may be the wrong person."
