CYCLING: This weekend promises to be a celebration of cycling in the South West with riders taking part in the South West Cycle Club’s Cristal Titanium Tour of Dardanup on Sunday.
The top riders from across the state will be battling it out for a coveted golden gnome and there is huge excitement and interest in the event reflected in the record number of nominations.
The event will include a 24 kilometre family cycle and a 39 kilometre have-a-go ride leaving Dardanup at 9am.
All are welcome to come along and have a ride with South West Cycle Club members out on the course to offer support and encouragement.
Following on from the first ever female race on Le Champs Elysees at this year’s Tour de France, the Tour of Dardanup will have a womens only category for the first time in the event’s long history.
South West Cycle Club member Nat Commons said she was “super excited” to have six teams registered with the state’s top female cyclists competing.
In a bid to get more women on bikes, the Nicheliving Womens cycling initiative will also be conducting a free group training session open to women riders not normally able to access coaching and training services on offer in the metropolitan area.
A training session focused on group riding and team time-trialling will be held in Dardanup on Saturday from 3pm.
